Something that’s important to get straight: Your dosing routine with SCEMBLIX

It is important to take SCEMBLIX exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
It is helpful to establish a routine for taking your medication that works with your schedule. That’s especially important with SCEMBLIX because you can’t eat for at least 2 hours before you take the medication and 1 hour after your dose.
Below you’ll find information on how to take SCEMBLIX, including tips that you may find helpful in making the medication part of your daily routine.

Take SCEMBLIX every day as prescribed

Your doctor will want you to take SCEMBLIX every day. You’ll be prescribed either the 20 mg or 40 mg tablets. Your doctor will tell you how many times a day to take SCEMBLIX. Swallow SCEMBLIX tablets whole. Do not break, crush, or chew SCEMBLIX tablets.

Do NOT take SCEMBLIX with food

One of the most important things to know about SCEMBLIX is that it should never be taken with food.

Do not eat for at least 2 hours before and 1 hour after you take SCEMBLIX.

Why it’s important to take SCEMBLIX on an empty stomach

Food may change the way your body absorbs SCEMBLIX. If the medication is taken with food, it can decrease the amount of SCEMBLIX in your blood in an unpredictable way.

Tips for making SCEMBLIX part of your daily schedule
  • Take SCEMBLIX when you first wake up: You may find it helpful to take SCEMBLIX as soon as you wake up in the morning since you will not have had any food for 2 hours or more. Once you take SCEMBLIX, you just have to wait 1 hour to eat breakfast

  • Use your phone to set reminders: To establish your routine, it may be helpful to use your mobile phone to set reminders when it’s time to take SCEMBLIX. You can also set reminders for when you cannot eat before and after taking SCEMBLIX—and when you can eat

  • Decide what works with your schedule: No one knows your routine like you do. Determine what works best for you, so that you can take SCEMBLIX exactly as prescribed. To help you create a routine, ask your doctor for a SCEMBLIX Starter Kit. It includes a dosing wheel, which you can use to create a dosing schedule that works with your mealtimes and your medication

  • Ask family or friends to help: With SCEMBLIX, it’s important to time your medication and your meals. That can present a challenge when you’re having a meal with family members or friends. You may find it helpful to explain the importance of sticking to your medication schedule. That may make others more willing to find a time that works for everyone

What if you miss a dose of SCEMBLIX?

If you take SCEMBLIX once daily and miss a dose by more than 12 hours, skip the missed dose. You should take your next dose at your regular scheduled time. If you take SCEMBLIX twice daily and miss a dose by more than 6 hours, skip the missed dose. Take your next dose at your regular scheduled time.
